I wanted to take a few moments and hopefully clear some things up regarding Stew & Brew. I understand that the Point Lookout website isn't the greatest, and some of this stuff you couldn't find out there anyway.
Alternative Lodging
If you are interested in attending Stew & Brew but tenting is just too inconvenient for you, this Motel is just a few miles from the park and offers nice rooms at affordable rates. I'll add this to the official event information within the next few days.
Park details
There are many different levels of accomodations that you can choose from based on your own personal comfort level and needs. Remember, these are offered by the park on a first come first served basis, so as soon as you are sure you're coming I recommend that you book your accomodations. No lodging equipment of any kind (i.e. tents, sleeping bags, etc.) is being provided for anyone other than staff members of Polyamorous Percolations. They will be hosted free of charge as our way of thanking them for all the hard work they provide us. If you want to attend but feel restricted because of travel arrrangements, or if it's just not possible for you to provide your own lodging equipment, post a message on the Travel & Lodging board. It's very possible that someone else attending might be able to help you out. If you are unable to figure out any alternative, email me directly and I'll see if I can help you. I will make every effort to help you, but make no guarantees.
Campsites: $25/night
Campsites with electric: $30/night
Campsites with water, sewer and electric: $35
Special Campsites: double campsites accommodating 12 guests range from $40-$45/night
Camper cabins: $50/night
There are six four-person camper/cabins available for overnight stays. No pets, smoking, or cooking are permitted inside the cabins. A fire ring is provided for cooking. Check in time is 3 p.m., checkout is at noon. This doesn't specify if these can be used multiple nights. I recommend that you call and ask if you're interested.
There are full bathrooms and showers, all handicap accessible, in close proximity to each section of the park. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring for cooking, although wood is not provided. We'll take care of making sure that there's enough wood to get the cooking done, as well as for nightly campfires. Our meal plan, should you choose to register for it, will ensure that there is plenty of food for everyone who RSVP's. This will basically be composed of typical fare. Bacon and eggs, burgers, hot dogs, steak, etc. Any specific needs should be emailed directly to me after you have registered and paid for your meal plan. This does not mean that anyone will be specifically cooking for you...most likely it will be a community effort and we'll all share in the duties. See the official release for more specific pricing details.
Airport and travel distance
If you're flying, I recommend that you choose either Dulles or BWI as your destination airport. Typically Dulles offers cheaper flights, as they are a heavier traffic airport. Dulles is also easier to navigate in and out of (in my opinion) than Baltimore. As far as travel time once you land, both are approximately two to two and a half hours away from Point Lookout State Park.
As the event draws nearer, we'll make sure that everyone knows which campsite we will be in, as well as how to find us once you enter the park.I hope that this has cleared things up a little. If anyone has any further questions, feel free to respond here or email me directly.
