He'd overheard me on the phone several times with both my husband and my boyfriend, sometimes repeating the same information and referring to both of them by terms of endearment!

Honestly, I totally agree with you. I'm on a personal mission to ban boxes and labels of any kind. People rarely get it right when they're used.

People always gossip about the boss. Welcome to boss-dom.
If they're mostly young and female, they have a good reason to want to know whether you're married, have a girlfriend, or are gay. Frankly, you're cute. Your higher-status job also makes you more desirable. If you're not in one of the three boxes, you must be available, right?
